Abstract


As the basis of organizational innovation, individual innovation is directly related to the survival and development of organizations. It is one of the most important issues for us that which factors will arouse individual innovation behavior, what could improve individual capability of innovation and enhance organizational performance. The development of Human Capital(HC)Theory and Social Capital(SC)Theory supply a new way for research on innovation behavior and organizational performance. We examine the effects of HC & SC on innovation and performance at the individual level. What we are interested is whether innovation behavior is a mediator between HC / SC and performance. According to the review of research on innovation behavior, performance theory, human capital theory and social capital theory, we formed the model of those four variables and proposed 7 hypotheses. Based on a sample of 300 agricultural researchers, the empirical study results showed that:(1) Human capital has positive effect on innnovation behavior;(2) Social relationship interaction frequency(one aspect of SC)has positive effect respectively on organizational performance and innovation behavior;(3) Innovation behavior has positive effect on organizational performance. What’s more, it plays a mediator role between individual education level and organizational performance, but also between social relationship interaction frequency and organizational performance. At last, we analyzed the empirical result and showed the theorial and practical significance. Further more, we suggested the way of further study.
