Abstract

Wind load is a very important factor in the design of light-weight structures that have been widely employed in recent civil engineering. Accompanied with the structures more flexible and lighter, the role of the wind load should be paid more attention to. As a result, how to determine the distributions of the wind pressure and how to investigate the wind-induced vibration of the structure have aroused our interests. In order to obtain the wind movement and the wind pressures, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), namely "numerical wind tunnel method", has been applied. This method promises a good prospect due to its advantages( such as short design cycle, low experiment cost and risk) over the methods of wind tunnel test and spot test. The flow behavior around the blunt building can be described by Navier-Stokes equation, as well as the continuity equation of viscous incompressible fluids. The discretion of the investigated object usually adopts the different ways such as finite element method(FEM), finite volume method(FVM) and finite difference method(FDM). In the present work, FEM is used to investigate the flow behavior and then detemine the wind-pressure distribution that acts on the building. The study belongs to the field concerning the wind-induced vibration of the structure. The main fluid dynamics solver is based on the velocity-pressure finite element formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations of incompressible flows. To eliminate the numerical oscillation induced by the convection term and the incompressibility, the mixed interpolation of unequal order for velocity and pressure is employed. With the help of the pre-processing and the post-processing of the software ADINA, a program is primarily built and further proved to be accurate and feasible by the flow around square cylinder. Then the roof of Portal Frame and Shell are taken for examples to calculate the flow. As a result, the wind pressure distribution is given and the effects of rise-span ratio and the gradient of the model are analyzed. Based on it, the pressure
