Abstract

The investigation on the interaction of laser and matter is a very interested research field due to its extensive application. Resonant laser ablation of metal is a very important experimental method, because it can be used as detection technique of trace element with high sensitivity. Resonant laser ablation (RLA) is a two-step process, occurring within a pulse of a tunable laser. The tuned laser wavelength was chosen to realize the resonant transition to the excited state of atom or molecular of interest. The leading edge of the laser pulse ablates the surface of the solid sample to produce neutral atoms or molecules which are then resonantly ionized by the trailing edge of the same pulse. As a new experimental means, RLA has been demonstrated to have high sensitivity and provide semi-quantitative results, with very little sample consumption. It has potentially application for studies of toxic and radioactive elements. Resonant laser ablation also plays an important role in physics, chemistry, environmental sciences, life sciences, and other industrial application. This paper is consists of four chapters. In chapter one, the resonant laser ablation technique and it’s develop -ment are introduced.
