Abstract

Since their discovery, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have continuous, promising applications due to their unique structure, peculiar electrical capability, fine flexibility, good chemical stability, thermostability and adsorption property. But CNTs have poor solubility in water and many ordinary organic solvents, which restricts its research of application. As the preparation technology of CNTs becomes more and more consummate, chemical functionalization and modification of CNTs have become a new research hotspot. The purpose of this thesis is to probe new synthetic method for composites of semiconductor metal sulfides (CdS, Ag2S and HgS), magnetic nanoparticles and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs); to study reaction condition, rules and relationship of structures and property; to explore the possibility ofβ-cyclodextrin (β-CD) modified on the surface of MWNTs and study the molecular recognition property, which accumulated experiences to synthesize new carbon nanotubes-based functional materials.1. MWNTs were coated with metal sulfide (CdS, Ag2S and HgS) by an in-situ synthetic method via noncovalent functionalization of MWNTs with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), which was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The coating layer was composed of metal sulfide nanoparticles with size of less than 30 nm. The advantage of this method is that the composites obtained did not significantly affect the energy states of the MWNTs, which paved a way for synthesizing other carbon nanotubes-based composites. To investigate the optical property of the composite materials and the relationship of structure and property is meaningful for the carbon nanotubes-based composites and their applications.2. Acid treated MWNTs were covalently modified with water-solubleβ-CD through acylamide band and ester bond. The products were
