Abstract


This paper evaluates the simulation of the interaction of the Hadley Centre coupled ocean-atmosphere general circulation model HadCM3 global El Ni?o - Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Asian monsoon . Assessment of the interaction between ENSO and the Asian monsoon is mainly based on the evolution of the two anti- cyclonic circulation : one is in the western North Pacific (WNP), and the other is in South India (SIO). We found HadCM3 can simulate the evolution of two anti- cyclone season . WNP anti- cyclone formed in the period of development of El Nino 's fall, was developed in the maturity of the winter and the next spring , the attenuation in the following summer . SIO anticyclone of the development of the El Nino summer , autumn , mature in two seasons after the recession . In addition, the mode of the the two anticyclonic observations and anticyclonic strengthen the SST dipole good analog . In simulated precipitation regard , El Ni ? O maturity of the Indian Ocean before precipitation dipole and mature tropical Pacific Northwest negative precipitation anomalies , and two anti - cyclone related . The simulation results also show that the strong interaction between ENSO and monsoon and ENSO and quasi- two-year cycle of the Asian monsoon system . Strong El Ni ? O events associated with the rapid decay of El Nino , and in the winter for the following year is more likely to develop into a La Nina event . In addition , associated with the strong El Nino event in the WNP and SIO anticyclone showing the trend of the quasi-biennial oscillation . HadCM3 on the interaction of ENSO and the Asian monsoon reliable simulation provides an important basis for further study of the changes in the decadal scale global warming , ENSO and the Asian monsoon system .
