This paper analyzes the economic value of crops germplasm resources under the background of protection biology diversity. On the base of related theories and valuation methods to which people pay more attention, and combining the investigation findings of crops germplasm resources in Jiangsu Province it studies on the category and valuation methods of the economic value of crops germplasm resources to analyze the economic value of crops germplasm resources.Firstly, according to the feature of crops germplasm resources and its function, and drawing on the research findings of economic value of natural resources and biodiversity, this paper divides the economic value of crops germplasm resources into four parts, namely, direct value of plant variety, indirect value of plant variety, research and development value, and protection value, and analyzes the process of realizing the economic value of crops germplasm resources. Then, the paper comes up with evaluation methods for the economic value of different parts of crops germplasm resources. Through analyzing and sorting out the classifications and valuation methods of the economic value of crops germplasm resources, the thesis establishes valuation model for the economic value of crops germplasm resources on the basis of valuation purposes, principles and methods of economic value.Taking the paddy, a kind of important crops, as a case, and according to the feature of paddy germplasm resources and different valuation methods, this paper applies market valuation method to count direct value of plant variety, makes use of market valuation method and opportunity cost method to calculate indirect value of plant variety and research and development value and makes advantage of market valuation method, shadow engineering method, opportunity cost method, production cost method and contingent valuation method to count protection value. The result shows that the economic value of the paddy germplasm resource in the city of Yixing, Jiangsu Province is comparatively high.
