Abstract


In general, code switching is the phenomenon of language contact, it is ubiquitous in bilingual or multilingual society. In the same dialogue or conversation, the speaker using the two or more language variants phenomenon, called the conversion of the language code (Yao Shanshan, 2007) in the same dialogue, the speaker using two or phenomenon of more than one language, called code switching. Classroom code switching is an important means of classroom discourse realized in a multilingual environment, is also a significant feature teacher talk. Teachers' code switching is the alternate use of two or more languages ​​in a sentence paragraph or discourse. The Uygur school English teaching, code switching widespread. The purpose of this article is to study Uighur middle school English teachers in the classroom code switching phenomenon. In this paper, based on the perspective of Jef Verschueren (1999) theory of linguistic adaptation, analysis Uighur secondary school English teachers in the classroom code switching phenomenon. In this study, by Yining City, Xinjiang seventh secondary three junior high school English teachers in the classroom teaching of language use. Voice recording, classroom observation and interview results show that these teachers in the classroom teaching commonly used forms of code switching. The research results show that the Uighur middle school English teachers code switching is very common in the foreign language classroom, English teachers in the main function of the language code in the transcoding process, including vocabulary and grammar teaching background cultural lesson was, and classroom management. Code switching, the majority of teachers hold a positive attitude, they think appropriate code switching can promote foreign language teaching. Based on the above results and findings can be seen Uygur middle school English teachers in the classroom code switching in English class plays a supplementary role in promoting, especially in explaining English grammar, vocabulary usage and classroom management, code switching is necessary . Some revelation of this study on the actual Uygur school English teaching: Teachers should study to reflect on their own teaching process, according to tense Uighur and English and teaching the classroom medium of the need for timely adjustment conscious, marked not just use Chinese language code and the more efficient use of the Uighur language code. Education authorities through regular teacher training to gradually deepen teachers 'understanding of the English teaching process, to improve teachers' understanding of the English teaching process.
