Science education is a consistent education which includes technology development, the relationship between science and technology, science technology and social culture. It emphases on the causes of science discovery and invention, and also its facilitation for human development. So the center of science education is innovation and practice, and the purpose of it is improving students’scientific literacy. It requires both teachers and students have the spirit of innovation. Mind map is a graphic tool of radioactive thinking. It can contact scientific concepts by using its special and coherent structure.Mind map can connect new knowledge with prior knowledge effectively. So, mind map has its value in science teaching. Focusing on it, we fulfill following two main aspects.First, collect relative material of mind map domestic and overseas. We discuss its concept, structure and theoretical basis, and explicit the theoretical basis of our research.Second, base on the theoretical analysis, we try to apply mind map in science education, especially in science teaching and science learning. We discuss the important role mind map plays in improving science classroom teaching and learning strategies. We take STS education and socioscientific issues teaching as examples, discussing how mind map plays a role in them and expresses its functions of divergent thinking. Socioscientific issues teaching is a popular science teaching method in many developed countries, but not yet in China. So we try to discuss how to use mind maps in socioscientific issues teaching to make it more effective. Mind map’s functions in science learning mainly are improving the efficiency of inquiry learning, the notes efficiency and learning attitude of students. It always uses colorful pictures and lines to attract students’focus in class, and improves their learning enthusiasm.According to the analysis of these two main aspects, we think apply mind map reasonably in the process of science teaching and learning can enhance the efficiency of science teaching, and also can improve students’learning habits. Using mind map in science learning can improve the efficiency of inquiry learning, the notes efficiency and learning attitude of students.
