Abstract

The paper first discusses the basic principles of fiber lasers , classification and status of research and development , followed by a detailed discussion of an important research and development direction - double-clad fiber lasers . This fiber lasers to high power laser output as the most prominent advantages , on the basis of the principles, applications, and development overview Summary , researchers widely attention problems - how to improve the absorption efficiency of the double-clad fiber lasers . In the analysis of the reasons for the low efficiency of the absorption of the circularly symmetric double-clad fiber , summarizes the current commonly used in several ways to improve methods : increasing the core radius , and doping concentration , optimizing the cross-sectional shape of the inner cladding , and proper bending of the optical fiber , etc. . Both the absorption efficiency calculated analytical methods : geometrical optics method and mode field analysis . Then using these two methods , respectively, calculated by the influence of various factors on the absorption efficiency , and analysis summarizes the results obtained . Of circular symmetry, the absorption efficiency of the four double clad optical fiber core offset, rectangle and ellipse calculation results show that the elliptical inner cladding optical fiber is one of the most effective structure to improve the absorption efficiency . Finally, considering the calculation process and calculate the results of the two analysis methods , their advantages and disadvantages are compared .
