Analysis of EEG and Thyroid Function in the Patients with Alzheimer’s Disease or Vascular Dementia

Abstract


Objective: To investigate Alzheimer's disease ( Alzheimer 's disease , AD ) and vascular dementia (vascular dementia, VD) patients with EEG ( electroencephalogram EEG) changes in thyroid function relationship . Methods : 10 cases of patients with AD group , VD group of five cases and cognitive function normal control group, 20 cases , EEG , thyroid function , and Condensed intellectual health check (Mini-Mental State Examination, MMSE) score in the groups . comparison. The results : AD group EEG abnormality rate of 70% , the VD group was 100% and 25% in the control group . VD group with the control group, the difference was significant , P <0.05. EEG changes the more serious the lower the MMSE score . Despite the same degree of EEG changes , but the VD group compared with the MMSE score of the AD group was significantly higher (P <0.05) . Thyroid function test data in the AD group and the the VD group of TT 3 , FT 3 than the control group significantly reduced (P <0.05) ; TT 4 < / sub > FT 4 , TSH various differences between groups did not significantly . Conclusion: The combination of EEG , thyroid function test , and MMSE score can help early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of AD and VD .
