Abstract


A Dream of Red Mansions,which is a vernacular novel written by spoken language during the QianLong period,can give us a rough profile of the Beijing dialect in the eighteenth century. So it is of great importance to the research and understanding of Chinese language at the time.The particle system in A Dream of Red Mansions is a great feature,which is obviously different from that of the Heroes of the Marshes and the JinPinMei cihua,inculding the modern Chinese language.Except these,there are only a few of scattered discussions,and so we don’t have the comprehensive study on this system.In this paper,we use statistical and qualitative methods,making the exhaustive analysis on the grammartical meaning and syntax distribution characteristics of aspectual particles,structural particles,mood particles,and metaphor particles.The whole text can be divided into six parts:Introduction describes A Dream of Red Mansions in the history of Chinese language study.In the next four chapters,we make comprehensive analysis and description on the mainly memebers of the four kinds of particles.And we also make preliminary explainations on some special phenomenons and summaries on some rules in it.At the end,the Conclusion section is the summary of the whole paper, revealing the basic profile of the particle system in A Dream of Red Mansions.This paper is the periodic research achievement of the National Social Science Fund Project“History of function words in Beijing Dialect”(08BYY049) chaired by Professor Cao.The full paper is about 8.5 million characters.
