Abstract


The vocational education of China had great development from 1927 to 1937. During this period, Nanjing Nationalist Government established a rather perfect system of vocational education and took a series of measures to develop the vocational education, which accelerated the development of modern vocational education. Making a study on the vocational education from 1927 to 1937 will provide some experience and lesson for today’s vocational education. Therefore, this thesis attempts to make an exploration from the following aspects.The first part gives a review to the development of the vocational education before the establishment of Nanjing Nationalist Government. The vocational education of modern China emerged in the Movement of Foreign Affairs. During the period of the New Deal of late Qing Dynasty, the vocational education was enlisted in the educational system. The vocational education formed a trend of thought and developed quickly during the early days of the Republic of China.The second part analyses the social environment in which Nanjing Nationalist Government developed the vocational education. At the first place, Nanjing Nationalist Government united the whole country and provided a stable environment for the development of the vocational education. Secondly, economic building provided the motivation for it. In addition, the development of the educational theory was the theoretic base of it.’ The third part narrates the establishment of the vocational education’s system through introducing the educational tenet, guidelines and several statutes about vocational education. The educational tenet characterized by the three principles of people paid much attention to the living of people, which put the base for the establishment of the vocational education’s system. Because of issue of several statutes about vocational education, the vocational education’s system including schooling,remediational education and vocational direction formed step by step.The fourth part expatiates the various measures Nanjing Nationalist Government took to develop the vocational education. These treasures included strengthening the leadership, emphasizing investigation, encouraging development and so on.The fifth part introduces the development of the vocational education from 1927 to 1937 from the following aspects: The schooling, remediational education and vocational direction.The sixth part summarizes the features of vocational education from 1927 to 1937, which consisted of three parts. The first one is that the government paid much attention to it and put emphasis on the lawmaking about the vocational education. The other one is that the vocational education separated from the general education. In addition, the government also advocated the cooperation of building organization and the schools, which was another feature of the vocational education from 1927 to 1937. These features provide beneficial inspiration for today’s vocational education.
