Abstract


In the Spring-Aatumn period, the royal family declined and the powerful states Strived for supremacy. Meanwhile, the foreign nomadic nationalities struggled fiercefully with the agricultural nationalies in China. The contiual conflicts among the different states and the turbulent social situation resulted in the large population shift and migrating necissarily. This dissertation will discuss the above item from three aspects: the causes the manifestation and the effects.Part One: The course of the population migration. The increase of social productivity strengthened the ability that human conquer the nature, so that it was possible that the individual family produced independently. The ruling class lessly fettered the low-grade people. All these made prerequisite for the population immigration. In the Spring-Autumn period, all the states realized the importance of the human resoures. They adopted the positive measure to attract and even cojoled the immigration to strengthen their power. In addion, various frequent disasters and the cruel exploitation and.appression resulted in the poplulation migration in different areas and countries.Part Two: The situation of the population shift and migration. In Spring-Autumn period, the population migrate frequently. The main situation was as follows. When the war took place, the local and nearly residents were forced to fled to the alien lands to search for relatively safe sanction. To capture the prisoners of war was one of the main goals of the external wars. After a state was turned over, the ruler, the noble and the populace were usually forced to leave their native land. Many small and weak countries under the threat of powerful countries attack and annexation had to migrate to other places to avoid the calamity. In order to coutrol the occupied area more effectively the conquerers, offien sent soldiers to defend the land newly openned up to hold advantage over the enemy. Followed the soldiers, there were a lot of avil and military personnel. After the war. The victorious nations had to present the prisoners of war to the emperorof Zhou, the leading nation of the alliance and the meeting of dukesand princes. Of course, some weak nations offered populace to the powerful nations to acquire safety, And the nation to serive for supremacy presented people to other nations to bestow favours. The royal family of Zhou, the ones defeated in the scramble for power and profit, the ones afraid to stir up trouble to themselves and the ones unable to survive in native country would usually deserted their homeland to other countries. The countriesof the dukes and princes wowld send populace to defend the newly occuppied land andcities after they exterminated a country. Some of the people would be awarded to their meritorious offocials and relatives. The fcerceful civil struggle also would result in the population shift in different domestic areas, The rulers would also lead their people to migrate to alien land for better development. All kinds of scholors would often moved here and there in order to make an official and travel for study.Part Three: The historical function of population migration. The population migration in Spring-Autumn period made a great influence at that time. The growth and the reduce of population destoyed the balance among the nations. The migration of the talents decides the prosperity and deteriation of the nation. " The nation will survive of the bachelors survive. The nationl will be conquered. Meanwhile, the migrating people brought various culture, technique and experience to the place that they moved to. This would promote the multi-sided exchange and spread among different areas. The various foreign and Chinese nationalities strengthened their contact through frequent wars and various political activities. The different nationalities lived together and inter-married each other, which would accelerate the nationalities to merge.
