Abstract


The proverbial-style essay is a kind of essay which is concise and graceful, incisive and meaningful. It inherited the forms of pre-existing essays that includes inscription, maxim, sayings prose, chain style, letter. The content of the proverbial-style essay dealt with the scholars’ life ideal, and thoughts experiences which were popular in Late Ming Dynasty, reflected their psychological, social status and literary tendency. These proverbial-style essays which were created by these scholars and influenced by their codes of language, are elegant and unrestrained. In the meantime, these essays reflect the influence of the popularization literary thinking to the proverbial-style essay creation.Late Ming Dynasty in the process of the proverbial-style essay development period is a peak. In this period, many excellent proverbial-style essays appeared, including Moans language, Knowledgegained from the Root of Vegetable, Living Bimbisara Hall Proverbial-style Essay and so on.These essays produced a major influence in ancient Chinese literary history, its creation continues to Qing Dynasty. To a certain extent, the proverbial-style essay also affects the creation of contemporary prose and poetry.
