The urban phenomenon is in the center of all the concern, particularly in the developing countries all the more so since the urbanization process is seen, on different aspects, like a condition or a demonstration of economic development. A lot of researches have been devoted to the urbanization in the developing countries among which, of course, rank Mali and China. As far as I’m concerned, no comparative study has been engaged for those both countries. That is the reason that accounts for the choice of the topic 《A Comparative study on urbanization between Mali and China》. So it is corresponds to a need to understand well the urbanization, its consequences (positive or negative) and its prospects as well. Above all, it’s meant to be a comparative analysis to show the common points, particularities, great tendencies and the different approaches in these both countries. So, the thesis will be divided in five chapters which are dynamic and process of urbanization, urbanization and economic growth, the problems related to urbanization, urbanization and urban cultures, at last, urbanization and its prospects.Mali with an urbanization rate of 32 % (less than the African average 34 % and than the one of West African 37 %) as well as China 36 % against 35 % for Asia and 37 % for east Asian, belong both to the last regions of the globe to go from a mostly rural populated to mainly urban populated one. These change in made in particular constraining conditions, because of the extreme gap separating the economy and the socio-economic organization of these regions and the industrial world. As soon as 2050 China will reach an urbanization rate of 75 % against 60 % for Mali. The fast urbanization in developing .countries in general, in Mali and China in particularly, is a worrying phenomenon seeing the socio-economic and political situation. So it’s necessary to wonder about which form and proportion will this urbanization in the future. Beside the characteristics, some other aspects less concrete but which are, in fact the main spring of the system will be treated: informal sector, foreign funding, and urban management among others. The urban study are sprawling that they invaded anything, and that, especially as far as planning is concerned, the urban problems has been so emphasized that the evolution of the rural background has been many times seen as a simple negative of the generalized of urbanization was saying Jacqueline B.G.
