Abstract


For many years, the geomorphology research has devoted to theresearch on landform features of the large region at small scale, and theresearch on landform features and process of the small region at big scaleprogress slowly. Although the development of DEM and GIS hasprovided the powerful tools for the geomorphology research, the analysisof landform features of small region at big scale is superficial becauseDEM at large scale is manufactured with large difficulties with thelimitations of basic topographic data. Luckily, the orthophoto topographicmap of 1:5000 of Changsha region was manufactured in 2002 with theneed of the economic development, which has provided the essentialsolid foundation for this research.Yuelu Hill is choosed to conduct landform features research of smallregion ,which is attributed to: 1) Yuelu Hill’s landform features is typicalin Jiangnan rolling ground, and represents the typical landform processwhich happened in regions with sub-tropical evergreen broad-leavedforest, thick weathered crust, large theprecipitation, active surfacerunoff; 2) Yuelu Hill with high vegetation coverage, steep slope andmany small gullies bring the disadvantage condition to the on-the-spotquantical investigation; 3) using DEM at big scale and GIS, the overallcharacteristic and development mechanism of the valley of Yuelu Hill isnot only observed directly, but also measured quantificationally, so themain development process can be analysed and speculated, it saved themassive manpower, the physical resource and the financial resource.Therefore, this research has the important theory significance and thewidespread practical value.Based on DEM, the terrain factors and the gully factors are analyzed, otherwise, the lengthwise section and Cross profile characteristics of sixtypical gullies which located in east, west, south are ananlyzed. The mainresearch results includes:(1)The elevation concentrates below 100 meters, slope steep, thearea located at east, southeast, west occupies most, the relief amplitude ismiddle, surface incision concentrates below 30 meters, surface roughnessis mainly between 1.10-1.4;(2)The elevation and profile, relief amplitude, surface incision, thesurface roughness are positively correlated, but the elevation and the planare negatively correlated; Moreover, the relief amplitude, the surfaceincision and the surface roughness have the very high positive relevance.(3)Based on the greater gully density, the earth surface breaksgreatly.(4)Through analyzing features of the six typical gullies whichlocated in east, west, south, the spatial differences rules are discovered:Overall lengthwise section shape the distribution of the width and thedepth of all the gullies have the similarity, but the variation of thelengthwise section shape, incision depth of every part and gullies slopeshape features are different in the different aspect.(5)The gullies of Yuelu Hill and the Japan hill have the similarityin the spatial distribution pattern and the developmental mechanism, butcertain differences exist between gullies in Yuelu Hill. It shows that, theregional factor plays a leading role in the gullies growth, but un-regionalfactor can not be ignored.
