Abstract


Primary and secondary mental health education is a kind of education activities that based on characteristics of physical and mental development, teachers use relevant methods of psychological education to cultivate good psychological quality, promote the comprehensive development of students, and improve their comprehensive quality. It has been shown that the psychological quality is one of the most important factors to affect the success of primary and secondary students, and its influence is much larger than intelligence. Mental health education in schools can purposefully and in a planned way form a good psychological quality of students and promote their learning of other subjects, so as to lay the foundation for their academic success.This study used stratified random sampling method, and in nine districts of Changchun City we sampled 16 primary schools to study, which contain 9 key primary schools and 7 ordinary primary schools. Mainly by interviews, we worked out the "Interview Outline of Mental Health Education in Primary schools in Changchun" as our research tool. The interview outline includs: the operation of mental health education organization, the form, content and methods of mental education, and the workforce status. The study was to investigate the work status of mental health education and the implementation problems in primary schools, and based on the findings put forward recommendations and solutions for the education sector hoping to develop appropriate policies to provide a reference for planning, and to play a catalytic role in the development of basic education in Changchun.Survey results showed: (1) In general, mental health education in primary schools is almost fully operational up. (2) Institutional setup of mental health education in Changchun is slightly thin; the most common setting is psychological consulting rooms (75%). (3) Mental health education course is almost universal in primary schools (93.8%). (4) In Changchun, mental health education teachers have a complex constitution, and lack of a strong professional. As to the existing problems, we propose the following four measures: First, change stereotypes, raise awareness and make the implementation of primary mental health education effectively; Second, standardized the management system and establish the regional mental health education center; Third, rich the content and form of mental health education; Fourth, Strengthening the construction of the teaching staff, increase the level of the mental health education`s work.
