A mathematic model for calculating the transient temperature field of boiler drum with inverse method is built and a calculation program is developed with FORTRAN. To testify this program, a temperature field of a boiler drum during its cold start-up is calculated by ANSYS, and then use the calculated outer surface temperature of drum by ANSYS as a known condition, the temperature distribution is calculated by the program developed in this thesis. The temperature distribution calculated by the two methods is compared, and the results show they coincide very well. A program for stress calculation and life analysis is also developed based on the standard of ASME. The programs are applied to calculate the temperature field, the stress and to analyze the fatigue life using the measured outer surface temperature during a start-up process of a 300 MW boiler. Some advice is recommended to control the temperature difference of boiler drum. The presented method can be applied to on-line monitoring system for boiler drum’s life.
