There are many defects existing in currently reporting software that cannot make effective response to enterprise’s business timely and meet the needs of business demand, such as low reusability and poor flexibility. A reporting solution based on the Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) concepts is proposed in this paper by analyzing the business processes and the inherent characteristics of the enterprise reporting software. The purpose of this reporting solution is to design a reporting service model which can provide standardized reference for the design and development of reporting applications.Firstly, according to the concept of SOA architecture, the common functions and features of reporting services are refined which against the defects that exist in the demand for enterprise reporting and the currently report software. In addition, through distinguishing the reporting services with Service-Oriented Modeling and Architecture (SOMA) method, the content and business processes of Reporting Services are defined clearly.Secondly, combined with modeling the services that distinguished by SOMA method, a reporting service model framework based on SOA is established. Furthermore, the functions, internal structure, interfaces and sub-services of some fine-grained services were designed which include the template design service, data collection service, data loading service, reporting output service, reporting management service, etc.Thirdly, reporting services are designed in detail by using the tools such as UML, and realizing a reporting service based on the SOA service model by using the technology of .NET and RDLC.Finally, an assets navigation system is taken as an example to show how the services is deployed by using Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) technology, and illustrate the integrating method of the proposed reporting service and MIS.
