Abstract


The regional culture is facing a stern struggle under the trend of globalization. While at the same time the amount and speed of construction in China is booming so fast that local architects have no time to consider about the rationality of architecture. As a result, architecture became more and more mediocre. What form a sharp contrast with this is that we China not only has maintained a highly developed wooden architecture system but also have various splendid regional folk residence. Thus we Chinese local architect still need more study on the cooperation between the rationality and modernity of architecture.This essay take the Lijiang Naxi traditional residence as the research object to which the space art of the traditional towns and the traditional residence architecture we paid more attention during the study. Space topology and tectonic have been used in the analysis for two purposes: one is that exploring the manners such as the local material and its tectonic, urban spaces and so on which can be inherit from the past; the other is to find some inspirations that we can take as a reference in the creation of regional architecture.There are five chapters in this paper. First is the introduction which including the paper’s topic, the object and the meaning of the research..Chapter 1 introduce precisely the background of the Lijiang Naxi residence architecture such as the geography ,the history and culture ,the economic and folk custom even the religion that is related to the residence and also the history about it. Chapter 2 analysis the space composition of Naxi traditional residence and its inspiration to the modern urban design. Chapter 3 makes the analysis on the form of traditional Naxi residence architecture. Chapter 4 take the material’s tectonic as the research object .The 5th chapter gives the author’s advice on the modern regional architecture creation through a reconsider about the regional architecture and a retrospect of the avant-gardes and gives a review on the selected works of the contemporary Chinese architects. The last part is a conclusion of the whole paper and gives some prospects for the future.The research carried out on Lijiang Naxi traditional residence worth a lot: based on the deeply accumulation of the folk culture, the folk architecture and its culture, the traditional material and its skills, the old town’s urban space and so on are the precious treasure especially in nowadays----a globalization time.
