With the rapid development of China’s economic and the growing size of China’s cities, car has become the most popular means of transport in people’s work and life. There are a lot of GPS vehicle monitoring system that developed on the domestic so far, but the mode that based on Web/Internet are few. GPS technology has great development potential and widely application in many areas, such as the positioning、monitoring、scheduling of the moving target. In this situation, research and software design this GPS monitoring system is meaningfully.In this paper, we divide the design and realization of GPS monitoring system based on web into two parts, one is about the embedded equipment and the other is about the server-side software design. The former use the operating system resources to achieve the acquisition and process of the data of GPS on the Linux software platform, at the same time, we use ray algorithm to determine whether the latitude and longitude of the current GPS is in the enclosed area where is the server-side issued, by combination of the server-side we achieved the alert of the car which out of the bounds. The latter basing WEB framework Django which developed by Python as foundation, using JavaScript framework ExtJS which was open-source to build the entire structure, then we using the function of Jquery’s Ajax to sent the ID which was corresponding to the vehicle to the background server, after that we query the latitude and longitude of this vehicle though operation the interface of Python and MySql database, the information of the vehicle will be sent to the mapbar, in the other side, marbar return XML data which is about the information of geographical position. When we login the website, the server will parse the data and by load the mapbar’s API interface we marked the point of the corresponding vehicle’s geographical position on the map, thus, we achieve the vehicle’s localization. This thesis provides a practical GPS monitoring system with real-time monitoring features. This software can not only play an important role in intelligent transportation system, but also provide vehicle tracking, logistics vehicle scheduling and many other services.
