Abstract


Objective To review and analyze the pathological features,diagnosis and surgical management of intrathoracic Castleman’s disease(CD).Methods 5 patients admitted during 2006 and 2008 in our department were discussed,4 of localized type and 1 of multicentric type,all underwent surgical treatment.Results All patients underwent a follow-up of 6-18 months and were asymptomatic as preoperatively.1 patient suffered cervical and axillary recrudescence of the Castleman’s disease and he was well recovered by a regional radiotherapy.Conclusion The final diagnosis of CD rely on pathological biopsy.The Computerized Tomography is an essential measure in diagnosis of CD preoperatively.Clear surgical resection of localized intrathoracic CD is able to get a well control of the disease.Small part of the patients with multicentric intrathoracic CD can receive a good result after surgical resection,but most part of them has a bad prognosis because of dysfunctions of other orgens.
