Abstract
Minorities in Shanghai lives scattered, studies to the pattern of living are very limited, especially, and study on Xinjiang minorities in Shanghai is blank. At present, population of Xinjiang floating minorities to Shanghai is increasing year by year. With expansion of this group to Shanghai, their problem of adapting to Shanghai also obvious and needs to pay enough attention.This article chooses several cases from Putuo district as research subject, the cases include different types’ persons such as both genders, the old, middle-aged and the young, what is important is that the cases represent different groups of Xinjiang minorities, such as individual traders, owners of small restaurants, college students, the white-collars, public officials and so on. The article inspects problems of floating Xinjiang minorities adapting to Shanghai by in-depth interview method and sum up the problems. Then, the article carries on the factor analysis to the problems of Xinjiang minorities adapting to Shanghai. The conclusion is that lack of social support to floating Xinjiang minorities is main factor. The lack not only includes informal social support composed by primary group, but formal social support composed by society and official. The latter is main reason between them. Finally, in view of the problems of floating Xinjiang minorities adapting to Shanghai, this article proposed that we should establish a set of system of social support, including legal and policy support, community support, work support to minority live in city, network composed by ethnic relations as well as social work participation and so on. At last, this paper concluded that all kind of survival and development difficulties represt their different problems of adapting to Shanghai, and the problems also reflect different types of floating Xinjiang minorities in Shanghai has different capable of adapting to Shanghai. Therefore, models of social support to the group also be corresponding.There are lots of studies on metropolis adapting in academic circle and more studies focused on ethnic minorities located such as Beijing Niujie, Madian Muslim community, these studies on ethnic minorities located have significant guiding sense to the city minority work. Compared with ethnic minorities located, aim to minorities lives scattered, city minority work wants to obtain entire society’s approval and support, the difficult is bigger, the duty is heavier, it not only needs to solve people’s understanding on the issue, but also to solve a large number of detail issues, for instance, how innovate ideas and look for the accurate breakthrough point and so on.
