Abstract

In the 21st century, the research of biomedical materials more and more becomes hot spots around the world. Biomedical materials are different from any other materials due to its biocompatibility, and the biocompatibility is the basis to evaluate whether a material in biomedical application. In this paper, Chitosan (CS), Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and calcium hydroxide all have excellent biocompatibility.Recently, the electrospun nanofibrous mats have become a very hot research topic in the area of biomedical materials. Above of all, electrospinning is a progressive and efficient method for manufacturing high performance nan?obers and mats due to its versatility and potential for applications in diverse fields. The notable applications include in tissue engineering, biosensors, filtration, wound dressings, drug delivery, and enzyme immobilization. Both PVP and CS were well known for their biocompatible and biodegradable properties, especially, CS has antibacterial property, PVP has hemostatic effect. In our present work, a series of CS/PVP dual-function blend nanofibers and mats were fabricated with different weight ratio of CS to PVP by electrospinning method. The diameter, morphology, structure, and properties of nanofibers and mats were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). In addition, the thermal stability of mats was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). According to these tests and relative discussions, the CS/PVP dual-function blend nanofibrous mats should be a kind of excellent biomedical materials, which would be used broadly in medical field, such as wound dressings, biomaterial scaffolds, and tissue engineering. In addition, the common calcium hydroxide root canal filling material of calcium hydroxide with poorly sealed bacteriostasis weaker shortcomings. The nanometer calcium hydroxide was synthesized by titration precipitation, which was good for the preparation of nanometer calcium hydroxide root canal filling material.
