Abstract


In junior high school classroom teaching, it is necessary to integrate the situational approach with multimedia technology in order to promote learners’interest in English, develop their proficiency to use English, and autonomous learning abilities as well as improve the teaching efficiency. Multimedia-assisted English teaching is an inevitable trend as it can create situations which are favorable to English learning, maximally arouse learners’initiative and motivation to learn English. As a result, learners’English will be greatly improved.This study explores the feasibility, rationale, and advantages of integrating the situational approach to English teaching in junior high schools with multimedia technology. One year’s experiment of mine shows that the multimedia-assisted situational approach has produced desirable effect.This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter One is the introduction which briefly addresses the current situation in junior high school English teaching, the rationale, aim and significance of the multimedia-assisted situational approach to English teaching. Chapter Two reviews the relevant research of the situational approach and the application of media technology to English teaching both abroad and at home, elaborates the theoretical basis of the multimedia-assisted situational approach。Chapter Three puts forward the research questions, research subjects, research tools, research design and case description. Chapter Four collects, analysis, and discusses the data of the research. Chapter Five summarizes the results of the data analysis, draws the final conclusion of the study, puts forwards the implications for teaching. It also points out the inadequacies of the study and suggestions for future study.
