Abstract


William Morris (William Morris ,1834.3.24-1896 .10.3) is distinguished the latter half of the 19th century British artists, designers, Romantic poets and novelists, but it is also one of the pioneers of the British socialist movement. Morris occupies an important position in the history of modern design, he was known as \William Morris design ideas can be summarized into four areas: art for the public service, the combination of art and technology, a combination of labor pleasure, utility and beauty. Morris design practice between their design ideas can not correspond exactly, and sometimes opposite, but it can not be denied that the design ideas of modernity: \One of the principles; combination of art and technology, \still in use; Labor pleasure stressed that the status of the worker's labor, human care, still has an alert sense of design development; combination of utility and beauty, \in practice, Morris put great emphasis on the combination of \William Morris always concerned about the relationship between life and culture, at the same time, his design theory and design practice closely linked, he is one of the few in the history of modern design is able to engage in a large number of system design practice, and achievements in theory deep person, he can be described as designers inside thinkers. The papers through a case study of William Morris design ideas, to discuss the relationship between design and the social, cultural, economic development, etc., and in the research of the history of modern design and research methods of doing some positive exploration . William Morris, the far-reaching implications for the development of modern design, Design Art History and Theory, research areas, he is also a good case study.
