Abstract

With the quickly development of the contemporary long-span architecture creation in china, there appeared a lot of works with important influence, such as the main stadium of Beijing Olympic Games—"nest", the national swimming building—"water sign square", the national big theater, the Guangzhou new theater etc. their design principle and design skill have brought many beneficial enlightenments and thinkings for the long-span architecture creation. But some works also exist many problems, such as unreasonable structure system, high building price, neglect of history context etc, and these problems have brought some negative influence to Chinese architecture creation. On the other hand, the foreign architects getting into the Chinese market quickly also makes us be worried. Therefore it is necessary to originate the pure source. We should understand the long-span architecture from the essence of construction to make the local architects improve their level of design principle and creation skill. This is exactly the aim of the topic research.Structure expressing is one important appreciatting beauty realm of the long-span architecture creation. Structure expressing has the douple contents of technique beauty and art beauty. The restriction and fusion between "technique"and "art" is the eternal topics in any ages. The high level of competition in the contemporary long-span architecture creation will be decided endly by the architect’s ability of structure expressing. The contents of structure expressing of long-span architecture are very widely, including structural mechanical law, structural form beauty principle , the use of structural material and structural detail expression etc. and each aspect is closely related with natural environment, history culture etc. The thesis choosed a special view, paying attention to structure expressing from tectonic theories, and analyzed some features of structure expressing through the research of the classic building examples. The thesis really did very well in fusing theories research with substantial evidence research.The thesis launched the research from 5 parts, including the level of theories, the level of history, the level of material, the level of emotion and culture and the level of operation. (1)The level of theories—the thesis first researched the concepts of structure expressing and tectonic theories etc. then examined structure expressing of long-span architecture from the view of tectonic to help the thesis writing found a solid theory base; (2)The level of history—the thesis summaried and evaluated the classic long-span architecture in history from the view of tectonic, and inquiried into the characteristics and develop trends of the contemporary structure expressing of long-span architecture. At the same time ,the thesis studied some architects or the structure engineers who paid attention to structure expressing greatly . (3)The level of material—the thesis systematically studied tectonic problems of structure expressing of long-span architecture from structural morphology, material characteristic, node construction etc. Through summary and induction of a great deal of architecture examples, the thesis found the regulations and the principles of tectonic in the complexional building phenomenon. (4)The level of emotion and culture—the thesis studied the emotional and cultural concepts and the tectonic strategies of structure expressing of long-span architecture. (5)The level of operation—the thesis pointted out definitely the role and function of architects in the structure expressing of long-span architecture, and summaried the design thinkings and design means.On the foundation of above-mentioned research, the thesis put forward "the view of rational and poetry structure expressing" as the conclusion of research. The thesis emphasized the creations attitude of contemporary long-span architecture. The thesis tidied up and induced the design thinkings and designed skills of structure expressing of contemporary long-span architecture to make research results have good functions and operability. The research will have aggressive instruction meaning to the practice of long-span architecture.The highlight of the thesis is mainly embodied in such aspects: (1) The thesis combined tectonic theories together with the creations research of long-span architecture, and examine structure expressing of long-span architecture from the view of tectonic, making the thesis have certain theories depth thus. (2)The thesis researched on structure expressing of long-span and the architects who paid attention to structure expressing greatly from the angle of history. The thesis sumarried the characteristics of structure expressing of the contemporary long-span architecture, then pointed out that rational expression and poetry construction were the development trends of contemporary long-span architecture creations. (3)On the background of contemporary long-span architecture creations, the thesis inquiried into the tectonic principles and strategies of structure expressing, and put forward "the view of rational and poetry structure expressing".
