Abstract

In Cours de linguistique Génerale,Ferdinand de Saussure summarized 2 systems of writing, ideogram and phonogram. And for structural linguistics he initiated are represented by Indo-european languages. Its system of writing belongs to phonogram, memorizing by recording every phoneme. By contrast, Ferdinand de Saussure realized the complex relations between Chinese and Sinogram, because he said that the Sinogram is considered as the second language for chinese.Xushen claims in the surface of shuowenjiezi that Chinese character has developed from“gram”to“character”. He also maintains that ideographic nature of Chinese character is weakening. However, the structure of Chinese character is up to the standard through the ancient and modern scripts. Modern scripts spring from ancient scripts. With the focus on the mu zi’s character in the scope of animal, this thesis analyzes the development of xiaozhuan(a style of calligraphy, adopted in the Qin Dynasty for the purpose of standardizing the script) from Oracle-bone Inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty by researching on the structure of oracle-bone inscription. .Based on the principle of bushou(radicals by which characters are arranged in traditional Chinese dictionaries) and original meaning of mu , this thesis sums up 38 muzi . Then, with the contrast of the figures of inscriptions’on bones or tortoise shells, the paper focus on on the change of the relationship of their meanings and styles. Also, with these changes, conclusion are arrived at that although the changes was belong to the ancient script part, it already have some kind of important change, just as a flythrough from gram to character.The followings are the main content of this thesis: Firstly, to define the conditions of the research object, find out the Oracle-bone Inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty we need and sort out of the thesis that we cited; Secondly, .to take the contrast of the style of the Oracle-bone Inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty and Xiaozhuan to research the relationship of the meaning and style; Thirdly, to .get a contrast of character founctioning in animal part to research the change of their characters as a part to get a new word; Fourthly, to get the conclusion that with the contrast, we could get clear of the pictographic and animate of the characters in the animal part in the Oracle-bone Inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty, also, xiaozhuan has some kind of normalization and distinctiveness, so we can say that xiaozhuan is the development of the Oracle-bone Inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty, which was neglected by the academic world.
