Abstract


Education of Chinese character, an important part of the basic education of China, has been emphasizing traditionally in Chinese educational circle. Education of Chinese character to young child, however, is a controversial issue in the circle, which implies a misunderstanding of treating child’s Chinese character enlightenment as simply the recognition of Chinese character in the early childhood education and a neglect of educational resources of Chinese character. Also, it is significant to deepen education of Chinese character in the current globalization. Expecting to have a clarification of the misunderstanding, to make a good use of educational resources of Chinese character, and to meet the need of displaying the national traits in the globalization, this research proposes a supposition of the Multi-Dimensional Education of Chinese Character (MDECC) to young child in order to better his/her development. The main goal of the MDECC is to improve young children’s development focusing on their cognition and sociality by exploiting and employing the multi-dimensional educational resources of Chinese character. The educational content of the MDECC consists of comparing and analysing the form structures of the Chinese characters with a pattern of "ancient Chinese character — picture (object or scene)—present Chinese character", revealing the cultural implications of Chinese characters and appreciating the calligraphy of Chinese character. A compositive theme education is the way of the practice, and the behavior—target model is a main assessment of the MDECC.This research, by employing bibliographical study and experiment, focuses on the educational resources implied in Chinese character, the possibility of education of Chinese character to young child and the significance of the MDECC on child development. After an amount of the relative references and data are collected and studied, an experiment is designed and the hypothesis is presented.
