The article studied the mind disease in Huangdi’s Classic of Internal Medicine in the aspect of relation between Mind disease and meridians, researching mind disease with meridian theory. It would be revealed in the following five portions: the definitions and meanings of Spirit and Mind, former studies of mind disease, possible relations between mind disease and meridians summarized in meridian diseases concerning mind disease and acupuncture and moxibustion therapies for mind disease, and the reasoning of correlation between mind disease and meridians. The main contents and conclusion are as follows:1) Beginning with the the definitions and meanings of Spirit and Mind, we did systematic literature research in diseases and syndromes related with mind in Huangdi’s Classic of Internal Medicine, including those caused by mind abnormity and those having mind abnormity as manifestation. We studied them respectively to analyze the characteristic of these diseases and syndromes, then thought of a conception of mind disease: a kind of disease having a series of abnormity in mentality, consciousness and intellection, concerning five kinds of Spirit and seven kinds of moods, as its manifestations.2) We studied and compared mind diseases in meridian diseases in unearthed bamboo and silk books with those in Huangdi’s Classic of Internal Medicine. From the evolvement of meridian theory, meridian disease and mind disease, we found that meridian theory is relatively independent in bamboo and silk books, and meridian diseases in“Meridian”in Huangdi’s Classic of Internal Medicine show little influence by Zang Fu theory, therefore, they would be observations in clinical practice. So, studying meridian diseases in ancient literatures would help knowing how the ancients recognize relations between mind disease and meridians and the regulation of acupuncture and moxibustion therapies for mind disease. Therefore, we bring forward a opinion that though Zang Fu theory is very important for meridian theory, it’s not adaptive to the whole meridian theory, which should be studied in its own way, following the characteristics of meridian itself. Thus we studied mind disease with pure meridian theory. We also analyzed a few main meridian diseases in Huangdi’s Classic of Internal Medicine and found relations between mind disease and meridians.3) Researching more literature, including eight books before Song dynasty regarding acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, we studied how they treated mind diseases by acupuncture and moxibustion, and calculated the frequencies to reveal the relation between mind disease and meridians. We found that acupuncture and moxibustion therapy for mind disease incarnate the concept of wholism, and the following meridians were attached importance to: Bladder Meridian of Feet-Taiyang (BL), Stomach Meridian of Feet-Yangming (ST), and Du Meridian (DU).4) Furthermore, we reasoned the above regulation. We analyzed relation between Body and Spirit, and bring forward that meridian is the material basis of consciousness activities, and responsible for mind disease, thus the characteristic of meridian would be a key to reason the relation between mind disease and meridians. Then we analyzed the characteristic of BL, ST and DU to reason the relation between mind disease and meridians.5) The above conclusion would be helpful for clinical practice. Treating disharmony of mind through treating that of body would be a helpful way. Meridian should be emphasized in treating mind diseases. The basic rule in treating mind diseases with acupuncture and moxibustion on meridians is correcting the imbalance of Yin and Yang (excess of Yang should be paid more attention to), and the disorder of Qi and Blood. The core of this rule is to attach importance to Yin, Yang, Qi and Blood in the body for wholism.
