We are now in the era of knowledge economy, universities will be not only places to impart knowledge and cultivate local talent, it will also be needed for society to provide information service, and the calling of socialized service of the university libraries is endless. Development of society needs university libraries walk out of the ivory tower, contacting and exchanging to our society, and provides personnel, equipment, resources, technology and other services to enterprises and society, improves operating efficiency and achieves positive interaction with society. In the wave of social promotion, university library faces a major opportunities and challenges, studying the status of socialized service of the university libraries, and actively investigating the develop of university library’s social service, and problems in the face of socialized service of the university libraries, seeking the effective models to enhance ability of university library’s social service, which proposes a new topic for university library along with social development.The article is divided into six chapters. Part one discusses research background and significance, research the summary at home and abroad, research ideas, research methods, innovation and research deficiencies about this theme. Part two outlines the university library’s social service. Mainly elaborated the concepts socialized service of university library, the basis socialized service of university library, and basic content of socialized service of university libraries. Part three focuses on status of university library’s social service overall status of university library’s social service, the stage of socialized service of university library, and the content of university library’s social service, and analysis the situation of university library’s social service, and proposes the problems of university library’s social service, that is, perception problem, management and institutional issues, intellectual property issues, shortage of relating policies and regulations and insufficient funding. Part four, which is the focus of the paper. Carries out principles of university library’s social service, then mainly studies service methods of university library’s social service, finally brings forward corresponding protection mechanisms. Chapter five analyzes typical case of university library’s social service, summarizes its experience. Finally, the paper summaries the whole opinion of the article and makes the prospect of further research.
