Abstract


Athens is always considered as the most representative ancient Greek city. Therefore, the prosperity of Athens can represent the prosperity of Greek. The ancient Greek conceived the concept of citizen interdependence earlier, city and citizen are interdependent of each other and community. Democratic political system provides institutional safeguards for citizen in one hand, while high-quality group of citizens provides a solid social basis for democratic system. Without the corresponding system of Athenian citizens, city and citizens would not exist. At the same time, we should realize that there are some limitations in Athens democratic political system. Although the Greek democracy of ancient Athens has reached the highest level of that time in ideology, system and practice and it became the basis for democracy, it’s inevitably to the decline.Commodity economy is the economic lifeline of ancient Athens. The pursuit of adventure and spirit of freedom is trained and exercised in commodity trade and economic literacy is developed. Athenian democracy is the cornerstone of civic literacy and Athens citizens first had the sense of civic citizenship in the atmosphere of democratic. Political and legal aspects of literacy of Athens citizens are trained in the process of participation in political activities. The field civic education is the essence which Greek left to Western civilization and it’s the most effective methods to improve the overall quality of Athens citizens. A good foundation and platform is built for improving and optimizing comprehensive quality of Athens citizens.Athens economic, political and education is studied and Athens citizens’characteristics and formation conditions of literacy is summarized systematically under Athens democratic system. Athens citizens have new and rational way of thinking and they are full of desire for knowledge and pursuit of beauty, wisdom and freedom. The role of education is pursuing the implementation quality of“good will”. All of this provided the necessary historical conditions for civic literacy in Athens.
