Abstract

CuO-CeO2 samples were synthesized by co-precipitation, hard template and hydrothermal methods. The as-prepared CuO-CeO2 samples were characterized by XRD, BET and TPR and were test for water gas shift (WGS) reaction in a fixed-bed micro reactor. It is proved that texture and performance of catalysts were depended on the preparation methods、Cu-Ce atomic ratio and calcinations temperature. The 30%CuO-CeO2 samples by co-precipitation was meso-porous structure. The surface area of precursor was 274. 59 m2/g and turned to 20.52 m2/g (calcined at 650℃) and 194.44m2/g (calcined at 350℃). The CO conversion decrease with the increasing of calcination temperature and the activity of sample calcined at 550℃is only 12%.Compared to co-precipitation, the 30%CuO-CeO2 sample synthesized by hard template present the uniform porous structure and narrow porous size distribution of averge 3.8nm.When the calcined temperature increases from 350℃to 650℃the specific surface area decreases from 242.08m2/g to 133m2/g. The CO conversion of sample calcined at 550℃is only 23%.Cu were higher dispersed on the surface of CeO2 in spite of the lower specific surface area of 30%CuO-CeO2 sample synthesized by hydrothermal method. The Copper content (10-30% atom) of the CuO-CeO2 sample synthesized by hydrothermal method has significant effect on the activity for the WGS reaction. The activity of WGS reaction increases with the copper content and the activity of 30%CuO-CeO2 sample raised to 51%.
