Study on Floor Substrate Making from Tetra Pak Waste

In this research, Tetra Pak waste was chosen as raw materials to manufactureproducts, such as Tetra Pak waste-based panel, Tetra Pak waste/poplar fibercomposites, Tetra Pak waste-based panel decorated by poplar veneer, Tetra Pakwaste/poplar fiber composites decorated by poplar veneer. Besides, physical andmechanical properties of each product were studied. The contact angle, FTIR, TMAand SEM were researched to study the property transformation mechanism of LileBaozhuang waste-based panels. Conclusions based on this research were shown asfollowing:1. Tetra Pak waste was chosen as raw materials to manufacture Tetra Pakwaste-based panel by hot pressing—cool pressing method. The effect oftechnological parameters, such as hot-pressing time, hot-pressing temperature, andadding amount of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), on the physical andmechanical properties of Tetra Pak waste-based panel was discussed. The optimumtechnological parameters were listed as follows: hot-pressing time of420S,hot-pressing temperature of180℃, adding amount of HDPE of0%.2. Tetra Pak waste, poplar fiber and HDPE was applied as raw materials toproduce Tetra Pak waste/poplar-based composites with the method of hot pressing—cold pressing. The effect of technological parameters such as adding amount ofpoplar fiber, hot-pressing time, adding amount of maleic anhydride graftedpolypropylene (MAPP), on the physical and mechanical properties of Tetra Pakwaste/poplar fiber composites was investigated. The optimum technologicalparameters were concluded as follows: adding amount of poplar fiber of35%,hot-pressing time of420S, adding amount of HDPE of15%, adding amount of MAPPof0%.3. Tetra Pak waste-based panel and Tetra Pak waste/poplar fiber compositeswere used as veneering substrates. Meanwhile, UF, PF and MDI were chosen asadhesives and applied on upper and lower surface of panels. The effect of the kindsof substrate and adhesive on physical and mechanical properties of decorated panelswas investigated.4. According to the surface wettability experiment, the wettability of UF and PFon Tetra Pak waste/poplar fiber composites is better than that on Tetra Pakwaste-based panel. Besides, the wettability of PF is better than that of UF.5. According to FTIR analysis, with the rising of hot-pressing temperature andthe extending of hot-pressing time, perssad within the Tetra Pak waste-based panel have changed, and amorphous region of cellulose as well as the hydroxide radical ofsemi-cellulose has decreased. When the hot-pressing temperature was180℃, thedegree of cellulose thermal cracking increased, which generated a certain amount ofmethylene.6. According to TMA, Tetra Pak waste-based panel contained LDPE, whoseglass transition temperature was99.2℃. However, the chemical contents of TetraPak waste/poplar fiber composites were more complicate, which contained LDPE,HDPE, MAPP and poplar fiber. Besides, the TMA temperature-deformation curvewas complexity: At122.0℃, there was an obvious gradient change, which wasprobably caused by the glass transition temperature of HDPE. Compared with thetransformation curve of Tetra Pak waste-based panel, the transformation curve ofTetra Pak waste/poplar fiber composites was more complicated.7. According to the SEM analysis, the manufactured Tetra Pak waste-basedpanel under the hot-pressing temperature of180℃and hot-pressing time of420Swas superior to that manufactured under the hot-pressing temperature of140℃andhot-pressing time of180S. The adding amount of poplar fiber did not have greatinfluence on the flow performance of thermoplastics, which was mainly affected byhot-pressing temperature, hot-pressing time.
