Abstract

In this paper, Fe nanoparticles were synthesized by the DC arc-discharge plasma method. Fe nanoparticles were functionalized by different silane coupling agents (KH550,KH560,KH570) in different conditions. We varied the value of pH to search for the best method. The phase structure, composition and morphology were investigated by the X-ray diffraction (XRD), tansmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).The Fe nanoparticles modified by different silane coupling agents were investigated by FT-IR spectra(FT-IR)and dispersion experiments. Flexural tests were performed in an instro Universal Testing Machine and the impact strength were performed by impact testing Machine,so that we can see that the mechanical properties of functionalized Fe/epoxy.We can see that the average size of a-Fe nanoparticles that we made was60.7nm, the surface of Fe nanoparticles was oxidized so that the structure of Fe nanoparticles is a "core-shell" structure. The FT-IR spectrum showed that the surface of Fe nanoparticles was coated by silane coupling agents and had a good dispersion stability. In the mechanical tests, we can see that Fe nanoparticles can improved the stiffness of the resin. The electromagnetic parameter of Fe nanoparticles mixed with matrix were also studied in the2-18GHz frequency range by vetor network analazer.Because of the space charge polarization, interfacial polarization, the nanocomposites exhibited high dielectric loss; due to the domain wall resonance and natural resonance, the nanocomposites exhibit high magnetic loss. Fe nanoparticles was added into epoxy to measure the reflection loss (RL),we can see that the iron-epoxy resin composites exbited good absorption performance in the radar band.
