Abstract

Space traveling wave tubes is widely used in the final stage power amplifier of various satellites, transponders, data transmission systems, radar and electronic countermeasure transmitters, etc. It can amplify the weak signals of communication, in order to enhance the communication quality and communication distance. When space traveling wave tubes is in the normal operation, the electron beams are collected by the collector, however, due to the great velocity of the electron beams, the collector will produce large amounts of waste heat when it’s hit by the electron beams, the collector will have a high temperature if the waste heat can not be effectively eliminated, thus the working life, the output power and the operation stability of space traveling wave tubes will be affected. Due to space traveling wave tubes are in a vacuum environment, radiation cooled collector is widely used in majority of space traveling wave tubes, and the effective heat dissipation requires the increase of structure’s radiation area. In this dissertation, the existing radiation cooled collector structure is optimized, so the optimum structure can significantly reduce the weight of radiator, however, maintaining the same level of heat dissipation performance and vibration performance. For these reasons, the main work of this dissertation includes the following:First and foremost, with the help of MTSS software, the trajectory of the electron beam and the energy loss of the electrode are obtained, therefore, the heat load by thermal analysis is got. Through radiation analysis by ANSYS finite element analysis software, the temperature distribution of collector with or without radiator is obtained, it’s prove that the radiator is helpful for heat dissipation. On this basis, an optimized structure of radiator is obtained through the simulation comparison of various radiator structures’heat dissipation performance.Secondly, the natural vibration characteristics of exist radiator and optimum radiator are obtained through modal analysis by ANSYS software, also obtain every radiator structure’s deformation and stress under acceleration excitation by ANSYS software simulation. Through comparison shows that as long as a reasonable optimization method is selected, the improved radiator still has a good vibration performance.Ultimately, a module that specifically for the analysis of radiator is formed through using secondary development tools in ANSYS software, when users want to complete a series radiator simulation, all they have to do is enter relevant parameters. This dissertation provides with reference and approaches for the optimal design of space traveling wave tubes’radiator, and verify the reliability of this optimization method, it’s of significance to reduce the quality of space traveling wave tubes.
