Magnetorheological (MR) fluid absorber is a semi-active intelligent damping device which works based on magnetorheological effect of magnetorheological fluid. Compared to traditional shock absorber, Magnetorheological (MR) fluid absorber can adjustment of the size of the damping force timely in the car driving in order to achieve the effect of active vibration. This makes Magnetorheological (MR) fluid absorber better able to improve the car driving comfort and safety. It has the advantages of simple structure, fast response, working damping force, continuously adjustable damping force, and adaptability.Because Magnetorheological (MR) fluid absorber involves multiple areas of electromagnetic, mechanical, hydraulic, control, so it can not be designsd by a single simulation software. This paper uses multi-domain co-simulation method to design it, multi-domain co-simulation can be more intuitive to accurately reflect the real state of the Magnetorheological (MR) fluid absorber. This paper studies the content follows:(1)Analysis of magnetorheological fluid’s rheological properties when magnetorheological effect happens. Decided the structure of Magnetorheological (MR) fluid absorber which is single cylinder, single rod with compensation airbag. Then recalculated the damping force model.(2)According to revised damping force model and rheological characteristics curve of magnetorheological fluid MRF-J01calculat the Magnetorheological (MR) fluid absorber structure size and determine the materials used. Using ANSYS to take electromagnetic finite element analysis of the absorber. Then optimize the magnetic circuit.(3) According to the optimized magnetic structure, we manufacture a principle prototype. And reference QC/T545-1999Automobile Shock Absorber bench test methods testing Magnetorheological (MR) fluid absorber derived damping force characteristic parameter to verify the validity and reasonableness of the the principle prototype structure size.(4) According to the theory of co-simulation,take co-simulation by using ADAMS, EASY5and MATLAB/Simulink.Determined the optimal control strategy of the Magnetorheological (MR) fluid absorber control system and provided the basis for the design of the damper control system.(5) Compared shock absorber bench test results with the co-simulation results, verify the accuracy of the co-simulation, and analysis of the inadequacies of principle prototype structure, and continue the work of damper structure optimization.
