Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture which located in China’s northwest is also the northpath of the ancient Silk Road. Various civilizations exchange here. Geographical Environmentin Central Asian wet Island and integration of the history and culture, deduce Ili’s uniquetraditional blocks form and architectural features. Streets around the ditch and water systemarranged flexibly and densely, and dwellings in channel series, created a both closed and opengreen living environment. Ili modern dwellings are important part of Xinjiang’s dwellingsheritage. The building itself is a connecting link between the preceding and the following,Chinese and Western, old and new, in the intersection of the transitional period, and haveimportant artistic and cultural value.Modern dwellings of Ili Prefecture is the carrier of Ili`s modern history and culture. It isthe result of the close penetration between the space composition in the specificregions and the area of geographical environment, historical culture, religious beliefs, ethnicculture, the prototype of space. To extend the context of dwellings, we must study therepresentative characteristics of the dwellings. Because of the important position of Ili inXinjiang`s modern history, this article take Ili’s modern representation of dwellings forspecific research object, then analysis the characteristics of modern dwellings in Ili. Thearticle based on a large number of Ili’s modern history information. Through therepresentative residential field investigation, the modern representative dwelling architecturalfeatures and its value are studied.For a long time, most of Ili’s modern dwellings haven’t received enough attention, itsprotection and management, utilization, research work is lagging behind. With the accelerateddevelopment of Ili’s city modernization in recent years, the modern architecture heritage isfacing development pressure, lack of attention, poor management, infrastructure lag, safehidden trouble is larger and so on, and some buildings were seriously damaged, on the vergeof collapse, even been demolished. Thus this article based on the analysis of Ili Prefecture’smodern representative dwellings living condition statistic, analyse issues to explore itsenvironment and body protection countermeasures, hoping to provide an reference for Ili’swhole dwellings heritage protection.
