Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network (WDM-PON) is a light access technology because of high rate, long distance easy to upgrade and high of network security. Due to the cost of the access networks determine its popularization and application and Optical Network Unit(ONU) is the main component of WDM-PON, the realization method of ONU in the research has the vital significance. Wavelength reuse can realize the colorless ONU of WDM-PON, so void of using an optical transmitter in each ONU end, reduce the complexity, and reduce cost of construction investment and long-term operation in WDM-PON.Based on the analysis of the working principle of Semiconductor Optical Amplifier(SOA), starting from the various nonlinear characteristics of SOA and gain characteristics are analyzed theoretically, and simulation WDM-PON system by applicant Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier(RSOA), SOA and HNLF. The main contents are listed as follows:1. Theory research in the significance and the history and the status of WDM-PON. Summarizes of several current WDM-PON according to different effect realization Wavelength reuse.2. Theory research of light absorbed and radiation, introduce several nonlinear effects and principle of SOA and the Characteristics of gain and the classification of SOA.3. A scheme for WDM-PON system based on RSOA is investigated. Expensive adjustable laser or other wavelength devices are replaced by RSOA reduce WDM - PON system cost and simplify network management. Research of the theoretical model of WDM -PON .The wavelength reuse of WDM-PON at 2.5 Gb/s is realized by simulating. Finally discussed by analyzing simulating results.4. A scheme for WDM-PON system based on SOA is investigated. RSOA is replaced by SOA and modulator. Don’t have the influence of RSOA reflectivity, so this scheme can change modulation mode easily. Research of the theoretical model of WDM-PON .The wavelength reuse of WDM-PON at 2.5 Gb/s is realized by simulating. Finally discussed by analyzing simulating results.5. A scheme for WDM-PON system based on SOA of improves is investigated. The first part is built based on the cascade of SOA; A cascade of SOA can erase signal of down, but have OAN and ONW.the wavelength reuse of WDM-PON is realized by simulating and discussed by analyzing simulating results. The second part is built based on HNLF. This scheme can eliminate OAN and ONW, make signal of down erasing more thoroughly. The wavelength reuse of WDM-PON is realized by simulating and discussed by analyzing simulating results.
