Abstract

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM), employing multicarriers modulation(MCM) technique, enable it to transmit signals by using orthogonal multiple subcarriers and has many strengths, such as the high rate of spectrum usage efficiency, the strong ability to resist multipath interferencećInter-symbol Interference and the frequency selective fading efficiently and eliminate the need of complicated equalizers in the receiver. However, high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signal is a major drawback of OFDM. While signals with high PAPR are passed through linear amplifiers, they may suffer in-band distortion and out-of-band radiation, causing the reduction of system performance. Therefore, linear amplifiers with wide dynamic range are required in OFDM transmitters, and they are expensive and inefficient. Consequently, it is important to reduce PAPR of OFDM by an appropriate technique. In this paper, three kinds of techniques are introduced to reduce high PAPR on the basis of the principle of OFDM system and typical methods are analyzed. Based on the partial transmit sequences(PTS) method, an improved scheme of Dual-layered Phase Sequences is proposed, which use a regular scheme to search phase sequences instead of random search. Using the relations between the sequences, the signals after scrambling satisfy a kind of recurrence relations, this can reduce the computational complexity effectively. This scheme keeps good PAPR of Original algorithm but with lower computational complexity. To address the issue that the computational complexity of PTS is still exponential with the number of subblocks, the PTS method is researched deeply. Take into account the issue that Probability of OFDM signals with high PAPR is very low, another scheme of PTS combining with Pre-determine technology is proposed and a new system block diagram is designed. Using the Pre-determine to determine the PAPR of signal, it only scrambling the signal whose PAPR upon the default value. This can reduce the computational complexity effectively and improve the BER deterioration of system caused by reducing the PAPR. In addition, a PTS scheme combining both Pre-determine and adaptive technique is proposed, it reduce the computational complexity deeply.
