Seismic activity happens frequently in China. The long-term earthquakes brought our people incalculable loss of life and property. As a result, it becomes very important to solve the structure design problem caused by earthquake disaster and protect people’s life and property. The structure isolation technology can decrease the acceleration and deformation of the upper structure greatly and can really realize ’decreasing earthquake and avoiding disaster’Base isolation is the most widely used in isolation technology. In our country, laminated rubber isolation bearing system is more studied of base-isolations. In order to develop the diversity of base isolation technology and better satisfy our country’s needs in isolation technology, this paper studies the damping performance of a new isolation technology-metal sliding bearing. It is a type of FPS (Friction Pendulum System) base isolation bearings which is made of metal materials. This paper analyzed and compared acceleration response and velocity response in the shaking table test of two test models which are fixed support structure and metal sliding isolation support structure. This paper also used SAP2000to establish the fixed support model and isolation model and analyze the damping performance of metal sliding bearing system. This results show that:1、From the respective of acceleration response, the acceleration values in most floors of isolation structure are less than the ones transmitted from shaking table.2、From the respective of velocity response, the predominant velocity values in every floor of isolation structure are less than the ones of fixed supported structures. So the earthquake energy is obliviously hampered to transmit to the upper structure. As a result, good performance for energy and seismic isolation can be achieved.3、The acceleration response value of isolation structure decrease with the increasing of deadweight. This shows that metal sliding isolation system is more suitable for structures with larger deadweight.
