With IEC61850standards expanding gradually in substations, a large number of relayequipment using the new standards have already been put into operation, improving theability of keeping power grid safe and stable, and meanwhile, bringing a new challenge tothe technology of relay test. Embedded technology is adopted by present digital relaytesting instruments to design hardware platform, which makes the testing instruments notonly complex in structure but also expensive in price, and thus lots of negative effects arebrought to the popularization and application of the testing instruments. In order to solvethis trouble, by studying the relay test technology deeply, a new design proposal ofprotection IED test platform is proposed in this paper, which has great theoretical andpractical significance in improving the development of IEC61850standards and increasingthe efficiency of protection IED testing task. The details of this paper are below:The communication performace requirements of IED testing and the contents ofConformace testing prescribed by IEC61850are explored, and the testing requirements ofprotection IED are general summarized from three aspects: sampling value testing, GOOSEtesting and basis performance testing. And combined with the analysis of traditional relayequipment testing method, a design proposal of protection IED test platform is proposed,which can finish these performances testing, detecting and evaluating for the protectionIED simply, reliably, economically and efficiently.Based on the basis theory of software engineering, the feasibility analysis for therealization technology and the requirement analysis for the configuration functions of thetest platform is accomplished. The summary design and detail design for the optical digitaltesting of the platform is realized, and relevant key data structures are designed. Thecorrelation testing function is verified by parsing GOOSE packets. Finally, the future trendof this test platform is discussed based on the principle of IEC61850information modeling.The interface between application program and PSCAD/EMTDC simulation softwareis lack of a extensive ability to build object-oriented model, and a project with several relaymodels cannot simulate. To solve this difficulty, a relay simulation platform based on object-oriented characteristic is proposed by take full advantage of ANSI-C standards. Therightness of this simulation platform is verified by the protection IED test platform, and theresult shows that this kind of simulation platform can be adopted into large scale relaytransit simulations.
