Green roofs provide numerous benefits such as increasing greenbelt, reducing air pollution, mitigating the urban heat island effect, conservating energy, increasing longevity of roofing membranes and so on. And the extensive green roof is the best form of green roofs in developing, which is cheap in price and easy for establishment. First of all, since green roof has became more popular in Beijing, this study has done a investigate, and fond out:the number roof gardens are more than the extensive green roof, however, this form is high in price and hard for establishment and maintainance. So, the extensive green roof is the best form. But the lack of proper plants and substrates has hindered it development. For this two factors, the researches of selection is necessary. The main results are as follows:1.The results of the high temperature resistance research of44kinds of perennation ground covers:the sedums, Sedum spectabile, Sedum spurium’Splendens’, Sedum reflexum, Sedum kamtschaticum var.ellacombianum, Sedum sarmentosum, Sedum acre, Sedum sexangulare, Sedum engleri; the non-succulent plants, Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Saponaria officinalis, Rudbeckia hirta, Achillea sibirca, Allium strictum, Allium giganteum, Iris lactea var. chinensis, Phlox subulata, Phyla canescens, Potentilla ansrina, Lysimachia nummularia ’Aurea’, Opisthopappus taihangensis, Thymus serpyllum, Thymus hybrid, Hyssopus officinalis, Dianthus plumarius, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Thymus mongolicus, Duchesnea indica, Iris tectorum, Gaura lindheimeri, Penstemon campanulatus, Vernica prostrate ’Mrs Holt’, Coronilla varia, Aquilegia viridiflora, Glechoma longituba, Prunella vulgaris, Filifolium sibiricum, Gypsophila tschiliensis, Leucanthemum vulgare, Dendranthema argyrophyllum, Monarda didyma, Geranium wilfordii, Stipa capillata, Dendranthema mongolicus, Lythrum salicaria.2.The results of the planting research of20kinds of perennation ground covers:the high temperature and weeds are the two key factors influence the growth of plants in the condition of adequate water.3.Sum up the results of the two researches,15kinds of plans have been selected out preliminarily:the sedums, Sedum spectabile, Sedum spurium ’Splendens’, Sedum reflexum, Sedum kamtschaticum var.ellacombianum, Sedum sarmentosum, Sedum acre, Sedum sexangulare; the non-succulent plants, Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Rudbeckia hirta, Opisthopappus taihangensis, Thymus serpyllum, Thymus mongolicus, Dianthus plumarius, Saponaria officinalis, Hyssopus officinalis.4.The preliminary results of the selection of10kinds of substrates:the best one is57%Peat,15%compost,28%Vermiculite, which can support all the plants grow well, with the cost is relatively low.5.For summarizing all the experiments,6kinds of plants have been selected out preliminarily:Sedumspectabile,Sedum spurium ’Splendens’,Sedum reflexum, Sedum kamtschaticum var.ellacombianum, Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Rudbeckia hirta.
