Abstract

Icing is one of the main factors which impacts the safety and reliability of wind turbines those operating in the clammy region. Ice appeared on the blades surface reduce the efficiency and output power of wind turbine even lead to unplanned downtime in severe cases. Therefore, the related research of wind turbine in cold regions has become urgent problem which solved to guarantee the safety of wind turbine operation. The research status of ice accretion of wind turbine blade is still at the starting stage. With the summarization of the previous ice accretion numerical simulation on wings and overhead conductors, prediction model and thermodynamic model are selected. The model of ice accretion was also established with analysis of the main heat transfer process. The causes and conditions, various influencing factors and the formation of rime ice and glaze ice are all studied. According to the characteristics of iced blades, physical model of airfoil were created in the GAMBIT software. With the aid of software FLUENT, the aerodynamic performance parameters and the super cooled water droplets which is the key factor are calculated, the distribution curve of super cooled water droplets collected coefficient was obtained. With the adopted of iterative algorithm, the numerical simulation of ice accretion at different speeds, temperatures and the angels of attack are computed to get the shape of ice and the distribution of icing regional.Through the previous research method of ice accretion of airfoil, the aerodynamic performance of the whole blade and the lift and drag coefficient of icing period pre-and post are obtained by the simulation of multi-element airfoil of wind turbine blade. The results of this study have great significance for the mechanism of icing accretion and operation control of wind turbine and this can provide the theoretical basis and correlation data to experimental research of wind turbine blade icing and the development of de/anti icing equipments.
