Objective:Triple-negative breast cancer is defined by its lack of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2amplification in immunohistochemistry, and considered to be a clinicopathological entity with aggressive behaviors and poor prognosis. The purpose of this paper was to analyze the clinical features and prognostic factors of triple negative breast cancer. Methods:Clinical data of69patients with TNBC and non-TNBC, which were resectable and detected by immunohistochemical method in Breast Surgery in Clinical Cancer Hospital of Kunming Medical University from January2005to December2006.69patients of triple-negative breast cancer were analyzed from8aspects, such as age, tumor size, lymph node status, nation, X-ray signs, menstrual status, histological type, etc. Patients of triple negative breast cancer were retrospectively analyzed in the clinical characteristics and factors which influenced the prognosis.Results:1. There was no significant difference in age, family tumor history, pathological type, national distribution between triple negative breast cancer and non-triple negative breast cancer patients (P>0.05);2. There was significant difference in tumor size, menopausal status, lymph node metastasis, X-ray signs between triple negative breast cancer and non-triple negative breast cancer patients (P>0.05);3. Triple-negative breast cancer recurrence and metastasis was higher than non-triple negative breast cancer patients (HR=1.91, P=0.045), There was no significant difference in local recurrence between triple-negative breast cancer and non-triple-negative breast cancer patients; But There was a higher rate in distant metastases, mainly for high birth rate of pulmonary metastasis (HR=4.97, P=0.003) and liver metastasis (HR=1.22, P=0.046). Triple-negative breast cancer has a high recurrence and metastasis in1-3years after surgery (HR=1.34, P=0.008);4. The5years overall survival and disease-free survival rates were significantly lower in triple-negative breast cancer than non-triple-negative breast cancer, The5years disease-free survival and overall survival rates were78.31%and82.58%respectively in triple-negative breast cancer, and88.83%and90.85%in non-triple-negative breast cancer. There was significant difference statistically in5years overall survival and disease-free survival rates (P=0.037, P=0.047).5. Multiple factor analysis showed that tumor size and lymph node status was two mainly prognosis factors in triple-negative breast cancer(P=0.039; P=0.023).Conclusion:triple-negative breast cancer in5years overall survival and disease-free survival rates is lower than non-negative breast cancer, and have a higher risk of recurrence and metastasis in1-3years, compared with non-triple-negative breast cancer. lung metastasis and liver metastasis are common, especially lung metastasis. Tumor size and lymph node metastasis are major risk factors for prognosis of triple negative breast cancer.
