As China joins in more and more global academic exchange activities and gets much more closely with those western countries in aspects of science and technology exchange, the EST becomes more important than ever. The quality of translation of EST means a lot to the Chinese readers. The wide use of the passive voice is one of distinguishing stylistic features of EST. How to correctly understand and deal with the passive voice is an important factor to ensure high quality of the translation. Therefore, this thesis focuses on a preliminary research for the translation of EST under some translation principle, in order to help translators get a better understanding and approach to the translation of EST.This thesis includes content of three parts:first, the thesis gives a definition of passive voice and makes a description of features of it in EST through examples:(1) objective statement to avoid any subjective factors;(2) important information put at the front of the sentence;(3) clear and compact structure. Then, inspired by the principle of "faithfulness, expressiveness and closeness" proposed by Mr. Liu Zhongde, the thesis introduces the revelation for the translation of EST——the translation should be faithful to source texts and conform to the expression of Chinese language. Finally, based on the revelation above and some practical examples, the thesis puts forward five specific and applicable translation methods of passive voice in EST:translating into Chinese active sentences, Chinese passive sentences, Chinese no-subject sentences, the idiomatic usage and other kinds of sentences.
