Abstract


ObjictiveTo elucidate the role of phosphatidylinositol binding clathrin assembly protein (PICALM) as a potential cause of late-onset Alzheimer’s disease(LOAD) susceptibility in Han Chinese partial population.MethodsA case-control study was taken from 266 LOAD patients and 343 healthy controls matched for age and sex. The functional polymorphisms of rs3851179 in PICALM gene were analyzed by using polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and the products were directly sequenced. The association of the genotype and allele frequencies with the risk of LOAD was elucidated.ResultsNeither differences of genotype frequency nor allele frequency was statistical significance between LOAD and controls(P>0.05). No statistical significant was found in difference of frequency between LOAD and controls after samples were stratified by apolipoprotein E(APOE)4(P>0.05). After adjusted for age, gender, BMI, fasting glucose levels, blood pressure values, lipid levels, and the carriage of at least one APOE4 allele. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated odds ratio(OR) was 0.85(95%CI=0.60-1.19).ConclutionsNo association was found between rs3851179 polymorphism and LOAD in Chinese Han population .
