Abstract


Alexandria was one of the largest Jewish settlements aroundthe Christian era. This city has been through Ptolemaic Dynasty andRoman Times since it was established by Alexander the Great.During these periods, especially Ptolemaic period, Jews settleddown in Alexandria on a large scale, which ultimately developedinto Jew’s center city in Egypt. Jews and Jewish philosophy havemade great contributions to cultural integration in the HellenisticAge. Meanwhile, conflicts, collisions and integration betweenJewish culture and Hellenism have laid a foundation for the laterformation of Christianity. The study on Jewish community inancient Alexandria can provide some understanding about theconflicts and integrations of ancient multi-culture as well as somereferences for multi-culture integration in contemporary world.Thebody part is consisted of preface and main body. The first section ispreface introducing topic selection objective and significance,domestic and overseas study dynamic, and research contents,methods and innovations of this paper. The main body makes an arrangement from the2nd section to the6th section inchronological order. It elaborates and discusses the origin ofAlexandrian Jews, introduces Jewish community in PtolemaicDynasty, gives an introduction to the Jewish community in the earlyRoman Empire, analyzing the beginning and the end as well as thecauses of Alexandrian Riots in38C.E., and explores the reasons forthe rise and fall of Alexandrian Jewish Community from the aspectsof cultural integration and Jewish culture.
