This dissertation discuss Daniel Dennett’s theory of free will mainly, and finish his main arguments on determinism and indeterminism, and represent his major viewpoints about freedom evolution, and raise some questions facing the freedom evolution.Dennett’s main viewpoints about the arguments of determinism and indeterminism are these:1. Hard determinism has three ambiguous concepts—inevitability, causation, and permanent.2. Determinism is friend, not foe to free will, they are compatible.3. Indeterminism and free will are incompatible.Dennett’s theory of freedom evolution include mainly these points:1. Free will is a life’s subsequence, not inherent, but a fruit of lives evolving.2. Human beings have several ways of evolving, and the culture evolution is a unique character to us.3. The important instrument is strengthening moral education to promote human free will.4. Free will have been in the evolutionary process, and thus it is fragile. So people need to guard against some social and political threat.According to what Dennett has said, I intend to agree freedom evolution. But the theory still has several problems to face:1. Determinism and free will are inconsistent in logic, and the challenges of genetic determinism and culture determinism.2. Free will and moral responsibility are irrelevant.3. Still, there are some doubts to Darwinian evolution, including the problems of genetic information recording before DNA’s birth, and some gaps and unity in evolution. Ultimately, these issues need philosophy, biology, physics, neurology, and others concerted efforts.
