Abstract


Diagram is an ancient Chinese philosophy books, which is used to explain the state of Yin and Yang. It is designed according to the book of changes:"Yin and Yang in Tai Chi, the eight trigrams in Yin and Yang". It revealed the general rule by which everything in the universe changes and develops. Tai Chi is a whole constituted by Yin and Yang. No Tai Chi without Yin and Yang. The unity and opposites of Yin and Yang shows the principles of diagram. It is the dialectics of ancient China and covers the universal law, which combined with the traditional way of Chinese painting and the aesthetic idea. It reflects the real living world.The unity and opposites of diagram plays an important role in application and development of Chinese ink painting, which performs the relationship between virtual and reality, heavy and light, black and white. And the virtual and reality is an important form in Chinese painting. Yin and Yang are not only opposite but also alternate. No Yang, without Yin. No Yin, without Yang. Creating a piece of work is continuously manufacturing and then resolving conflicts. The more contradictions are made, the better the picture is. Dealing well with the relationship between virtual and reality is successful work. Diagram, especially its balance, point, line, surface of the circle and other structural features has an important effect on the composition of Chinese painting.In addition, Shi Tao’s theory of a painting and Huang Binhong’s painting theory and techniques are through the Tai Chi theory, embodying the dialectical idea of the unity and opposites. Huang Binhong stressed that Tai Chi is a map of Chinese calligraphy and painting tips. His theory and Shi Tao’s concept of painting are same, emphasizing the unity and opposites which forms diagram. It guides the artists establish the correct way of thinking in the process of creation. Thus, researching Tai Chi’s thinking theory has a great significance to the Chinese painting. It makes us know more about painting law, and promotes the innovation and development of Chinese painting techniques.
